State shouldn’t have to tell you not to litter

A recent Herald article, concerning 18 million pounds of litter tossed annually is a recap of a state Department of Ecology news release. Check their site. Frankly, it made me crazy. How anyone could have written the original Ecology release with a straight face is beyond me.

The good news (supposedly) is that almost three quarters of Washingtonians don’t litter. Well, whoop-de-doo! The bad news is the 26 percent who do are waiting for someone to tell them not to. (I’m not making this up!)

In fact, the biggest reason given for all this littering is — get this — no trash bags in cars! This, apparently, is considered so disincentivizing the state is making some available at no charge.

Hot tip! A plain old grocery bag will do the job. Or watch some YouTube videos on the topic, there’s gobs of ‘em. Meanwhile, all you litterbugs out there, pick up your stuff. Good grief!
