The Athlete of the Week nominees for Oct. 3-9. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with next week’s poll and in Tuesday, Oct. 18’s paper.

Westin Galle | Sultan | Football
Galle, a senior, threw a touchdown pass, recorded two interceptions on defense and made a 35-yard field goal during the Turks’ 16-13 victory over rival Granite Falls on Sept. 30. Galle won the voting for Sept. 26-Oct. 2 by claiming 671 (34.6%) of 1,938 votes.

Carson Beckt | Stanwood | Football
Beckt, a senior, ran for three touchdowns, hauled in a 30-yard receiving TD and returned an interception 80 yards for a score during the Spartans’ 69-47 win over Union on Oct. 7. Beckt’s TD runs went for 46, 73 and 41 yards. He finished with 205 totals yards of offense on just eight touches.
Jaedyn Chase | Kamiak | Boys Cross Country
Chase, a senior, ran a personal-best time of 15 minutes, 55.0 seconds to earn fourth place in the 5,000-meter boys varsity gold race at the Nike Hole in the Wall Cross Country Invitational at Lakewood High School on Oct. 8. Chase also took first during a four-team home meet on Oct. 5. He finished the 2.6-mile race in 14:06.7.
JD Drake | Shorewood | Boys Tennis
Drake, a sophomore, won both of his No. 1 singles matches while helping the Stormrays to a 2-0 week in Wesco 3A/2A South play. Drake beat Archbishop Murphy’s Sam Mulliken 6-3, 6-2 on Oct. 3 and Shorecrest’s Indigo Vining 6-0, 6-0 on Oct. 5.
Paige Gessey | Lynnwood | Volleyball
Gessey, a junior, had a team-high nine kills to go with three blocks and four digs as Lynnwood swept Shorecrest in a battle of Wesco 3A/2A contenders on Oct. 4. She added eight kills, two aces and one block in the Royals’ sweep of Cascade on Oct. 6.
Madison Griffith | Arlington | Girls Cross Country
Griffith, a senior, finished 12th in the girls varsity gold race at the Nike Hole in the Wall Cross Country Invitational at Lakewood High School on Oct. 8. She ran the 5,000-meter course in a personal-best 19 minutes, 22.8 seconds.
Isabella Hoopes | Glacier Peak | Girls Swim & Dive
Hoopes, a senior, delivered a pair of fourth-place finishes in individual events and helped the Grizzlies’ 200-yard medley and 200 freestyle relay teams to a pair of top-eight finishes at the prestigious Mukilteo Invite at Kamiak High School on Oct. 8. Hoopes finished took fourth in the 200 individual medley (2 minutes, 15.91 seconds) and the 100 breaststroke (1:09.66). She won the same two events in Glacier Peak’s dual meet with Lake Stevens on Oct. 4.
Ava Jensen | Shorecrest | Girls Soccer
Jensen, a senior, recorded a hat trick in the Scots’ 7-0 victory over Lynnwood on Oct. 4 and scored the game-winning goal in the 58th minute as Shorecrest beat previously unbeaten Mountlake Terrace 1-0 on Oct. 6.
River Lien | Glacier Peak | Football
Lien, a senior, completed 19-of-20 passes for 313 yards and six touchdowns as the Grizzlies beat Kamiak 47-22 on Oct. 8.
