The Athlete of the Week nominees for Oct. 31-Nov. 6. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with next week’s poll and in Nov. 15’s paper.

Last week’s winners

Blake Gettmann and Murray Falkin | Shorewood | Boys Tennis

Gettmann and Falkin, both seniors, defeated Edmonds-Woodway’s Grant Oliver and Nalu Akiona 6-1, 7-5 to secure the Class 3A District 1 doubles title Oct. 27. It was the second consecutive district doubles title for Gettmann. They won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week voting for Oct. 24-30 by claiming 462 (29.0%) of 1,591 votes.

This week’s nominees

Addison Farman | Glacier Peak | Girls Swim & Dive

Farman, a sophomore, took first place in the diving event at the Class 4A District 1 girls swim and dive championships Nov. 5 at Snohomish Aquatic Center. She claimed the district title with a winning score 404.05 points.

Emma Hamm | Jackson | Girls Cross Country

Hamm, a junior, finished in 12th place in the Class 4A girls race at the state cross country championships Nov. 5 in Pasco. She finished the 5,000-meter course in 19 minutes, 9.3 seconds.

Jacob Hopkins | Cascade | Boys Cross Country

Hopkins, a freshman, claimed the boys ambulatory race title with a winning time of 14 minutes, 13.0 seconds at the state cross country championships Nov. 5 in Pasco.

Kolton Matson | Lake Stevens | Football

Matson, a sophomore, threw five touchdown passes in the first half as the Vikings rolled past Bethel 63-0 in a Week 10 playoff game Nov. 4. Matson completed 9 of 10 passes for 142 yards.

Nick Mouser | Monroe | Football

Mouser, a junior, returned a blocked punt for a TD and came up with a critical interception late in the first half as the Bearcats beat Liberty (Renton) 35-21 in a Week 10 playoff game Nov. 4. Mouser’s interception in the end zone helped preserve a 14-point halftime lead. He also recorded a sack on defense.

Alishia Nichols | Archbishop Murphy | Volleyball

Nichols, a senior, delivered an all-around performance with 17 assists, 10 digs, eight aces, three kills and two blocks to help the Wildcats sweep Marysville Pilchuck on Nov. 1.

Emma Orthel | Shorecrest | Girls Soccer

Orthel, a junior, scored a goal and added an assist as the Scots clinched a state berth with a 2-0 win over Oak Harbor in a Class 3A District 1 tournament semifinal match on Nov. 2. She also scored a goal in Shorecrest’s 2-0 victory over Shorewood in the district title game Nov. 5.
