The Athlete of the Week nominees for Nov. 7-13. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with next week’s poll and in Nov. 22’s paper.

Emma Orthel | Shorecrest | Girls Soccer

Orthel, a junior, scored a goal and added an assist as the Scots clinched a state berth with a 2-0 win over Oak Harbor in a Class 3A District 1 tournament semifinal match on Nov. 2. She also scored a goal in Shorecrest’s 2-0 victory over Shorewood in the district title game Nov. 5. Orthel won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week voting for Oct. 31-6 by claiming 2,928 (41.1%) of 7,124 votes.

This week’s nominees

Ryder Bumgarner | Stanwood | Football

Bumgarner, a senior, churned out 234 yards and two touchdowns on the ground to help the Spartans knock off Mt. Spokane 24-14 and advance to the Class 3A state quarterfinals. He also led the team with eight solo tackles on defense.

Mary Clarke | Snohomish | Girls Swim & Dive

Clarke, a junior, took home second-place medals in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles from the Class 3A state championships meet Nov. 12 at King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way. Clarke finished the 50 freestyle in 23.42 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 51.13 seconds.

Liviya Harrison | Snohomish | Volleyball

Harrison, a senior, piled up 29 kills and 41 digs over three matches to help the Panthers claim the Class 3A District 1 championship. Harrison’s week included posting 14 kills and 16 digs during a five-set win over Meadowdale in the title match.

Jayden Limar | Lake Stevens | Football

Limar, a senior, racked up 248 yards and four touchdowns on offense as Lake Stevens defeated North Creek 42-27 to advance to the quarterfinals of the Class 4A state playoffs. Limar produced 191 yards and three TDs rushing and added 57 yards and a score receiving.

Claire Smith | Kamiak | Girls Swim & Dive

Smith, a junior, earned a pair of third-place medals at the Class 4A state championships meet Nov. 12 at King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way. Smith finished the 100-yard butterfly in 56.95 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 59.14 seconds.

Ally Villalobos Van Slooten | Mountlake Terrace | Girls Soccer

Villalobos Van Slooten, a sophomore, scored the game-winning goal in the 53rd minute as the Hawks beat Auburn Mountainview 1-0 in the first round of the Class 3A state playoffs. It was the first win at state for the Terrace program since 1990.
