Drivers need to slow down, be patient, focus

As a professional driver who is required to follow speed limits as well as other traffic laws, stop signs etc, I’ve noticed that many of the drivers on the road seem to be inconvenienced by these niceties (“Stepped-up efforts needed to reduce traffic deaths,” The Herald, Dec. 4).

People are constantly exceeding the posted speed limits. They are truly annoyed following a vehicle doing 30 mph and especially 25 mph. Many drivers don’t plan on stopping for red lights as well as stop signs, especially if turning. Cars fly up to them and only stop if someone else is already there and taking their proper turn.

Pedestrians, cyclists, wheelchairs beware!

I sometimes wonder if these drivers are actually late for something or just in a hurry to be in a hurry? Hit the snooze one too many times? Even when traffic is moving there always seems to be someone that is just inconvenienced by the rest of the traffic on the road and must weave in and out to be first in line.

Until these folks realize that we are all just trying to get to our destinations I don’t see how the improvements are going to be realized.
