Vote for The Herald’s Prep Athlete of the Week for Jan. 9-15

The Athlete of the Week nominees for Jan. 9-15. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with the next poll and in next Tuesday’s edition of The Herald.

Last week’s winner

Vivienne Berrett | Stanwood | Girls Basketball

Berrett, a senior, averaged 23.5 points while helping the Spartans to a 2-0 week. She led Stanwood with 25 points in its 65-33 win over Shorewood on Jan. 5, and netted a team-high 22 points in the Spartans’ 84-49 win over Monroe on Jan. 7. Berrett won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week voting for Jan. 2-8 by claiming 1,214 (43.4%) of 2,799 votes.

This week’s nominees

Jacob Christianson | Lake Stevens | Boys Wrestling

Christianson, a junior, won the 113-pound title at the Viking Invite at Cavelero Mid-High School on Jan. 14. Christianson, ranked fourth in the state at 113 pounds by Washington Wrestling Report, beat South Kitsap’s Brennan Williams, ranked second in 4A, by a 10-6 decision in the title match.

Maya Davis | Mountlake Terrace | Girls Basketball

Davis, a junior, made the go-ahead basket with 20 seconds left to lift the Hawks’ to a 60-56 victory over Meadowdale on Jan. 11. She finished with a game-high 21 points.

Noah Henderson | Cascade | Boys Swim & Dive

Henderson, a senior, won the 200-yard individual medley and 100 breaststroke during a four-team meet with Shorewood, Snohomish and Glacier Peak on Jan. 12. He swam the 200 IM in 2 minutes, 0.18 seconds and the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.62.

Jack LeBlanc | Cedarcrest | Boys Basketball

LeBlanc, a junior, scored a team-high 30 points and made all 16 of his free-throw attempts in the Red Wolves’ 76-68 win over Cascade on Jan. 10.

Ana Reed | Shorecrest | Girls Wrestling

Reed, a senior, won the 110-pound title at the Fife Lads and Lasses tournament on Jan. 14. Reed beat Spanaway Lake’s Cecilia Ledesma, ranked seventh in the state at 110 pounds by Washington Wrestling Report, by a 10-8 decision in the championship bout.

Alana Washington | Everett | Girls Basketball

Washington, a junior, scored a team-high 20 points in the Seagulls’ 50-39 win over Stanwood on Jan. 10. She also led Everett with 17 points and eight rebounds in its 51-27 victory over Shorecrest on Jan. 12.
