Vote for The Herald’s Prep Athlete of the Week for Jan. 16-22

The Athlete of the Week nominees for Jan. 16-22. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with the next poll and in next Tuesday’s edition of The Herald.

Alana Washington | Everett | Girls Basketball

Washington, a junior, scored a team-high 20 points in the Seagulls’ 50-39 win over Stanwood on Jan. 10. She also led Everett with 17 points and eight rebounds in its 51-27 victory over Shorecrest on Jan. 12. Washington won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week voting for Jan. 9-15 by claiming 327 (70%) of 467 votes.

This week’s nominees

Garrett Chesley | Lake Stevens | Boys Swim & Dive

Chesley, a senior, won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 backstroke during a three-team meet with Snohomish and Glacier Peak on Jan. 19. He swam the 200 IM in 2 minutes, 3.94 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 57.53 seconds. He was also a member of the Vikings’ victorious 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams.

Araxi Crew | Arlington | Girls Wrestling

Crew, a freshman, picked up three straight wins via pinfall on her way to claiming the 100-pound title at the Lady Hawk Invitational on Jan. 21. She scored a third-round pin over Mount Baker’s Ella Moa, a 2022 state qualifier at 105 pounds, in the title match.

Giselle Dogan | Jackson | Girls Basketball

Dogan, a junior, poured in a game-high 32 points to lead the Timberwolves to a 63-58 overtime win over Mariner on Jan. 18.

Adria Lincoln | Monroe | Girls Basketball

Lincoln, a senior, broke her own single-game school record with 45 points in the Bearcats’ 79-53 victory over Foster on Jan. 21. She also pulled down 18 rebounds.

Keaton Mayernik | Stanwood | Boys Wrestling

Mayernik, a senior, won the 132-pound title at the Lynden Wrestling Tournament on Jan. 21. He picked up three pins before beating Lynden’s Connor Holgate, a 2022 2A state qualifier at 138 pounds, by a 20-5 major decision in the title bout.

Sean Neils | Shorecrest | Boys Swim & Dive

Neils, a senior, won the 50-yard freestyle and the 100 backstroke during a dual meet with rival Shorewood on Jan. 19. He finished the 50 freestyle in 21.80 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 53.64 seconds. He was also a member of the Scots’ victorious 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay squads.

Sylas Williams | Jackson | Boys Basketball

Williams, a senior, scored a game-high 29 points in the Timberwolves’ 82-81 overtime win over Mariner on Jan. 19. He netted 17 points between the fourth quarter and overtime, and went 6 of 6 at the free-throw line in the extra period. He also had a game-high 21 points in Jackson’s 63-51 victory over Stadium on Jan. 21.
