County sheriff’s race: Fortney’s poor decisions show who he is

Poet Maya Angelou said: “When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.”

Her words are especially fitting in the case of Adam Fortney. As sheriff, he has shown himself to be a man who:

Believes he has the power to act as a judge, and enforce only those laws which he deems constitutional;

Is willing to employ a deputy who shot an unarmed man, bringing a lawsuit which the county had to settle; and

Is willing to employ as deputies two men who conducted an unlawful search and did not report it truthfully.

I believe him.
