FOOTBALL

4A state championship

At Husky Stadium

Lake Stevens 31, Graham-Kapowsin 6

SEATTLE — The Lake Stevens High School football team is a repeat state champion.

Kolton Matson threw four touchdown passes, and Lake Stevens got stronger as the game progressed as the Vikings defeated the Graham-Kapowsin Eagles 31-6 in the Class 4A state championship game Saturday night at Husky Stadium.

Graham-Kapowsin came in as the undefeated top seed. But Lake Stevens scored late in the first half on a 45-yard pass from Matson to Paul Varela to take a 17-6 lead into halftime. The Vikings then dominated the second half to break open what had been a competitive contest.

Jesse Lewis caught two touchdown passes for second-seeded Lake Stevens (13-1), which won its second straight state title, and also avenged its loss to Graham-Kapowsin in the 2021 state championship game.

Graham-Kapowsin ended its season 13-1.
