EVERETT — After a lengthy standoff, authorities arrested a man early Friday in south Everett wanted for investigation of two out-of-state murders , police said.
Around 5 p.m. Thursday, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Violent Offender Task Force and a SWAT team arrived at a home in the 500 block of West Casino Road, knowing the suspect was there, sheriff’s office spokesperson Courtney O’Keefe said.
The suspect, a man in his 30s, barricaded himself in the south Everett home. Investigators tried negotiating with him, but he refused to surrender, according to the sheriff’s office. Throughout the hourslong standoff, the SWAT team used flashbangs and teargas on the man.
Around 1:30 a.m., authorities eventually entered the building. They reportedly found the suspect hiding in the attic and took him into custody. He was not injured.
The man was set to be extradited to California to face the murder charges, O’Keefe said. Details about the murder charges were not immediately available Friday.
This was the second hourslong standoff in south Everett this week. On Wednesday, police spent hours trying to get a man to surrender after he reportedly shot at police, leading to a brief exchange of gunfire at a home east of Paine Field.
