Cyclists, please stay in your lane, not on sidewalks

Published 1:30 am Wednesday, April 10, 2024

I’m an older guy, 69. I play golf twice a week, rain or shine. I walk three or four times a week, depending on my part-time job schedule. I walk on the sidewalks of Marysville where it’s safe. I thought.

Most of where I walk there is a special lane for bikes; you can tell, because there’s an arrow and a picture of a cyclist and it’s about 4 to 5 feet wide. But rather than use the lane I am encountering more and more cyclists on the sidewalk, including electric bikes, scooters and an occasional gas-powered cycle.

Some of these move along at a pretty good speed and it’s cool when I see them coming and can just move over, but many times they come up behind me without warning or yell “look out!”

Not sure what the answer is, but I hope I don’t get flattened. Now, get off my sidewalk.
