EVERETT — After three years of running a cottage bakery from her home, a Granite Falls native is bringing her sugary creations to their first brick-and-mortar location Saturday.

Twenty-three-year-old Madison Dennis got into baking so she could make sweets for her family’s breakfast. Now, the rest of her hometown can get a taste as she cuts the ribbon for Mad For Cupcakes’ storefront.

“This is the town I have lived in basically my whole life. So when I saw that this building was for rent, we just thought it was in the perfect location,” Dennis said.

Inside, the bakery’s pastel color scheme feels like stepping into one of Dennis’ decorated cakes.

“I’m a very colorful person,” she said. “So everything I do is pinks and purples.”

While her bakery is known for its custom cakes, cupcakes and cookies, the storefront will offer additional ready-to-purchase cinnamon rolls, muffins, scones and brownies. If you’re spoiled for choice, Dennis recommends her cinnamon rolls — just make sure you get there early.

“Everyone seems to just love them,” she said. “I usually always sell out of them every single time I do make them.”

The road to get here has been a busy one. While running her home bakery, Dennis attended Everett Community College for business administration and worked at a Marysville bakery for five years, a job she left only weeks ago.

When she maxxed out what can be made as a cottage bakery, she knew it was time to start thinking about a commercial space — a decision her clientele has excitedly embraced.

Sabrina McKee, who has been purchasing from Mad for Cupcakes from the beginning, said she is thrilled to see the business grow.

“Over the years, her desserts have been part of so many important moments in our lives,” McKee said in an email. “She has helped us celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, and countless special occasions.”

For McKee, it’s Dennis’ ability to bring an idea to life that sets her apart.

“I’ve sent inspiration photos for multiple orders over the years, and she always finds a way to not only match what I envisioned but somehow make it even better,” she said.
