Marysville dedicates new signs to Purple Heat recipients

EVERETT — Marysville dedicated nine new Purple Heat City signs on Friday to recognize Purple Heart Day at entrances throughout the city for military service members who were wounded or killed in combat.

The City Council formally recognized Marysville’s designation as a Purple Heat City in January 2022, a press release said. Snohomish County is part of the national Purple Heart Trail, a symbolic network of communities, roads and other locations that honor Purple Heart recipients.

Purple Heart Day is observed annually on Aug. 7.

“These signs are more than markers of an official designation,” Mayor Jon Nehring said in the release. “They let Purple Heart recipients and their families know that Marysville sees them, appreciates them and will never forget what they have endured.”

The Purple Heart is the nation’s oldest military decoration still in use, dating back to 1782.
