Council approves Everett PD’s appearance on reality show

EVERETT — The City Council gave the go-ahead Wednesday for reality TV crews to feature the Everett Police Department on an upcoming show, “Police 24/7.”

No money will change hands as part of the production agreement approved Wednesday. The production company, Mulholland Media, said it would retain “complete creative and editorial control” over the show, but also said that the police department would have a seven-day period to make edits to a rough cut of the show if they wished. The agreement also allows for the department to pull out of the deal if the show is interfering with police work.

The practice of making reality TV out of policing, although popular, has been controversial, as detractors worry it can compound stereotypes and may portray a negative picture of the city. The police department feels that the show could help serve as a vehicle for driving recruitment efforts, and hoped the program would show positive aspects of the police officers and character of Everett.

Two other law enforcement departments in Washington, the King County Sheriff’s Office and the Kent Police Department, have participated in filming “Police 24/7.” The Everett Police Department has previously participated in a reality TV show, “On Patrol: Live,” in 2024.

The CW hasn’t yet announced a date when the latest season of “Police 24/7” will premiere.
