MONROE — Alyssa Egan struck out 10 and went 2-for-3 with a triple, three runs scored and an RBI for Monroe to lead the Bearcats to a 10-2 victory over Jackson in a Wesco 4A crossover game.
Monroe jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the first, then broke the game open in the third, putting up five runs. Jackson’s Jessica Roy tried to fight back, striking out eight batters and going 3-for-3 with a solo home run in the sixth to make it 7-2.
Bearcat batters Kelly Hansen (3-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI) and Rachael Delamare (2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI) also contributed.
Monroe has five games remaining in the regular season, with games next week against Marysville Pilchuck, Snohomish and Lake Stevens.
“We are down to the home stretch for making districts. … We have three big games coming up,” said Monroe head coach Curt Eskeback.
And what does Eskeback think his team needs to do over the remainder of the season to ensure a playoff spot?
“(We) just need to win baby,” Eskeback said.
