STANWOOD — Mitch Williamson came from behind to defeat Stanwood’s Gergo Muller in three sets to give Jackson its second 4A district champion in as many years Wednesday afternoon.
Williamson, a senior, dropped the first set to Muller 4-6 before rallying to win the next two 7-5 and 6-4.
Michael Chamerski won districts last year for the Timberwolves, eventually going on to win the boys 4A singles title at state. Williamson will look to give Jackson state singles champions in back-to-back seasons when the tournament takes place next spring.
In the third-place match Cascade’s Patrick Chung beat Marysville Pilchuck’s Corey Coombs 6-2, 6-4 and now must play a Kingco player on Saturday in a play-in match to advance to state.
In doubles, Edmonds-Woodway’s Younghan Kim and Dylan Merrill beat Kamiak’s Andrew and Dominic Lee to win the doubles title. Jackson’s duo of Peter Cung and James Okubo beat Stanwood’s Jonathan Wolf and Eric Saekow in the third-place match 7-5, 6-1 for a final shot at state.
