Works better than warm milk

Feeling sleepy already: If you’ve made a New Year’s resolution to get more sleep, we’ve got tips for you. The tips are common sense: No caffeine in the afternoon or alcohol or spicy or sugary foods four hours before bed. And create a regular routine.

Unless you have to hit the hay earlier, we’ve always found ourselves easily lulled to sleep precisely at 11:35, just a few jokes into Jay Leno’s “Tonight Show” monologue.

You load 16 tons, and what do you get? Beginning in January, more than 10,000 baby boomers will turn 65 each day, but with pensions, savings and home values hurt by the economy, more are saying they’ll keep working rather than retire.

That’s bad news if you make golf clubs, but good news if you make vests for Wal-Mart greeters.

Don’t know much about history: On this day in 1917, the New York Mail published H.L. Mencken’s facetious and fictitious essay, “A Neglected Anniversary,” which purported to detail a history of bathtubs in America, including the now widely reported falsehood that Millard Fillmore was the first president to use a bathtub in the White House.

Preposterous! Historians now tell us Fillmore used his catlike tongue to bathe himself.
