Prep Roundup: Arlington beats Stanwood 54-46 in girls basketball

Published 8:31 pm Tuesday, December 21, 2010

ARLINGTON — Senior Ginny Wilson and sophomore Stefanie Schmuck, Arlington’s 6-foot duo, provided a spark for the Eagles in a 54-46 Western Conference North Division win over rival Stanwood Monday night at Arlington High School.

Wilson scored 12 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked two shots and Schmuck added 11 points, six rebounds and four steals to help lead Arlington (1-3 league, 2-3 overall) to its first conference win.

Without a band and much of a crowd because of the holiday break, Arlington head coach Nathan Davis said the team needed a jump start after failing to solve Stanwood’s pressure defense in the first quarter.

“Both Wilson and Schmuck just had good energy tonight,” Davis said. “… We needed it (the win) pretty bad.”

Davis said sophomore reserve Kaiti Ferro, who scored six points, played well off the bench for Arlington.

Stanwood (2-2, 2-3) was led by 6-foot-2 freshman Rachel Swartz’s 16 points.
