PREP SWIMMING ROUNDUP: Rosen leads Oak Harbor to victory

LAKE STEVENS — Oak Harbor’s girls swim team won seven of 12 events in a 99-81 victory over Lake Stevens in a Wesco North meet at Lake Stevens High School. Oak Harbor is now 1-0 in league, 3-1 overall. Lake Stevens 0-1, 2-2.
The Wildcats’ Laura Rosen won the 100-yard butterfly (1 minute, 2.84 seconds), 500 freestyle (5:24.09), and was the anchor on Oak Harbor’s winning 200 freestyle relay team (1:47.25).
The Vikings began the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay (1:58.39), and had a strong showing in the 100 backstroke, as Athens Slater (1:04.75) beat teammate Madeline Summers by just over a second. The Vikings also won the 400 freestyle relay (3:55.61).
“It was a closer meet than we thought it would be, so we had lots of girls have season best times,” Lake Stevens head coach Sarah Summers said, adding that two-thirds of the Vikings swimming team is either freshmen or sophomores, and the relay teams are comprised solely of freshmen and sophomores.
