We’re ready for takeoff

I’m testy; fly me: Passengers aboard a JetBlue flight are describing what they saw of an altercation between a passenger and flight attendant Steven Slater, which ended with Slater using obscenities over the intercom, grabbing two beers and deploying the emergency slide to make his exit.

Regardless of what you think of Slater’s actions, we’d like to thank him for adding to the workplace lexicon. For example, executives who are forced out get a “golden parachute,” while the rest of us, now when we quit, can proudly “grab two beers and deploy the slide.”

  • Oops: Air Force Two, returning Vice President Joe Biden from his vacation in New York, caught a private plane in its jet wash as it taxied for takeoff, lifting the unoccupied small plane a few feet off the ground and damaging it.

Biden, in a show of solidarity with the JetBlue flight attendant, uttered obscenities over the intercom system, grabbed two beers and deployed the emergency slide.

  • Aaack! Comic strip artist Cathy Guisewite, who has drawn “Cathy” for 34 years, says she will end her strip about a perennially weight-battling woman.

Guisewite said she was in a department store dressing room and was overcome by the urge to grab two doughnuts and deploy the dressing room’s emergency slide.
