Everett: Dream Builders auction set
Be a fighter pilot for the day. Or get $1,000 worth of orthodontic care. Or perhaps a Mexican fiesta for eight is more your style. All of those and more are available for auction at the Big Brothers Big Sisters annual Dream Builders Auction, set for Saturday at the Lynnwood Convention Center. The black-tie event raises money for the organization’s mentoring programs. The event costs $95 or $190 per couple.
Registration begins at 6 p.m.

Granite Falls: District saves on calendars
In a cost-cutting measure, the Granite Falls School District will not print a school calendar for the 2009-10 school year. “We are looking at large and small ways to help save money,” said district spokeswoman Kathy Grant. “Not printing the calendar will save the district approximately $2,000 in printing costs and postage.”
The calendar will be online for parents or local residents to download and print from home computers. Individual schools also will post parent newsletters online rather than mail them home, which will save another $1,500 in paper and postage.
For anyone who cannot access the Web site, hard copies of the calendar, or any other information, can be provided by calling the individual schools or the administration office at 360-691-7717.
The district slashed $1.3 million dollars from the 2009-10 school year budget because of state spending cuts passed on by the Legislature and declining enrollment.
Snohomish: A day of fun set for Sept. 26
Snohomish will host a hodgepodge of family activities at its second annual Community Day.
Vintage tractors, a zucchini car race, a deejay and peddle tractor rides are all on the schedule. The Snohomish Food Bank will also host a food drive during the free event, handing out raffle tickets to all who donate for a drawing every 30 minutes.
The event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 26, at Snohomish Station, 2727 Bickford Ave.

Everett: $5.4 million for county projects
Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., Thursday announced Senate approval of $5.4 million in funding for three Snohomish County construction projects she helped shepherd through.
Projects funded in the 2010 appropriations bill include:
$1.2 million for 1,000 feet of additional railroad track at the Port of Everett; and
$1 million for the Dawson Place Child Advocacy Center Project in Everett, which helps sexually abused children and their non-offending families.
