Arlington: Friendship Walk needs volunteers

Village Community Services’ second annual Friendship Walk is scheduled for Sept. 12 in downtown Arlington.

Volunteers are needed for set-up, rest stations, first aid, registration, hospitality, safety, cleanup and as crossing guards. Students who need to earn service learning hours are invited to participate.

Set-up is at 8 a.m. and cleanup at 3 p.m. Registration and a concert by Voices of the Village begins at 11 a.m. The walk is 1 p.m. The event is free, but volunteers and walkers who donate or collect $25 or more in sponsorships will get a T-shirt.

The Friendship Walk celebrates the inclusion of people with disabilities in the community. Proceeds benefit Village Music and Arts and the Voices of the Village music ensemble.

First-aid class to focus on sudden illnesses

Participants in the city’s next first-aid class can expect to learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of injuries and sudden illness.

Learn how to deal with emergencies such as shock, burns, strains, strokes and seizures. Renew your existing certification or become certified. The class is for adults and youth age 12 and older. It is set for 6 to 9 p.m. Monday in the community room at the Arlington Boys &Girls Club, 18513 59th Ave. NE.

Camano Island: Dog wash at animal shelter

Camano Animal Shelter Association hosts its third annual dog wash fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the corner of Can Ku Road and N. East Camano Drive, Camano Island. Nail clipping and microchipping also is available.

Donations can be made to Dogless Dog Wash. Proceeds benefit homeless animals.

Marysville: See the HomeGrown Festival

Marysville’s 24th annual HomeGrown Festival is Friday and Saturday on Third Street in the downtown area.

Enjoy more than 80 vendors of arts, crafts, flowers and produce; music; and entertainment from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. Contests include Best Hat on Saturday and vegetable carving. The festival and contests are free.

Learn first aid, CPR

Training sessions in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation will be offered by the city of Marysville at the Ken Baxter Senior Community Center, 514 Delta Ave. First-aid is scheduled for 5:45 to 9 p.m. Aug. 19. CPR is scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 26. The cost is $25 per class. Registration is required.
