Math is hard: The author of a new book argues that algebra is discouraging kids from finishing high school and isn’t a necessary skill for a majority of jobs.
Here’s a prime example: You don’t need algebra to run for president. But judging by a certain front-runner, you don’t need to be smarter than a fifth-grader, either.

Don’t know much about history: On this day in 1834, the U.S. Senate voted to censure President Andrew Jackson for removal of federal deposits from the Bank of the United States.
Jackson had only himself to blame; it was right there on the certificate of deposit: “Substantial penalty for early withdrawal.”
