Feeling Bieberish

Published 11:36 pm Thursday, July 8, 2010

Let the screaming begin: Pop heartthrob and Supercuts model Justin Bieber, who despite his toddler good looks is 16 years old, will perform to a sold-out crowd Tuesday night at Comcast Arena.

Promoters wouldn’t announce his set list for the concert, but it’s expected Bieber will sing such hits as “Eensy Weensy Spider,” “The Farmer in the Dell” and “Three Blind Mice.”

  • You’re not going to serve fish with a pinot noir, are you? Pennsylvania’s Liquor Control Board is allowing vending machines that sell wine in grocery stores. To get a bottle, a shopper must swipe a driver’s license, look into a camera and blow into a tube that checks his or her blood-alcohol level.

The vending machines have already been tested in California, but software tailored for that state’s wine drinkers was removed. The machines no longer have a snooty voice that, with a dismissive tone, criticizes your choice of wine.

  • Gum chewers, you’re next: Tech companies are developing applications for iPhones and other smart phones that will make it safer for pedestrians to look at their devices and keep them from walking into traffic and open manholes.

Once again, technology thwarts the benefits provided by natural selection.
