Jackson boys win 4A district golf meet

EVERETT — Kyle Cornett shot a 1-under-71 and Trent Livingstone earned an even-par 72 to help lead the Jackson boys golf team to the team championship in the 4A District 1 boys golf championship at Everett Golf and Country Club.
Along with Cornett and Livingstone, Barrett McGinnis shot a 3-over-75 as the Timberwolves edged Kamiak 375-379 for a four-shot win. The team title was decided in the first round, with the top individuals finishing the second round today to determine who advances to the state tournament. The top 15 golfers qualify for state.
Kamiak’s Mark Strickland shot a 39 on the back nine to finish with a first-round 74. Eric McCabe shot an even-par 72 to lead the Knights.
Cascade’s Anthony Chiarelli shared the lead with Cornett and Shorewood’s Max McKinley.
McKinley, McCabe, Cornett and Chiarelli tee off in the final pairings of the day at 3:08 p.m. today at Everett Golf and Country Club.

Lynden 8, Cedarcrest 4: At Duvall, Ivanna Lomas batted 2-for-3 including an RBI-double for Lynden as the Lions earned a berth to the 2A District 1 tournament with a play-in game win. Amanda Tapia batted 2-for-4 for Lynden, which hasn’t won the district championship since 1993. Christie Visser earned the win for the Lions. Cedarcrest’s Sam Boelter batted 1-for-2 with an RBI and Kori Butterfield batted 1-for-3 with three runs scored. Lynden, the Northwest Conference No. 5 seed, plays Burlington-Edison in the first round of the district tournament Wednesday at Janicki Fields in Sedro-Woolley.

Granite Falls 11, Cedar Park Christian 5: At Granite Falls, the Tigers scored six runs in the sixth inning to break open a 5-5 tie and finish the season undefeated at 20-0 overall. Alyssa Arndt hit a two-RBI single, and Sarah Hensley had a two-RBI triple in Granite Falls’ big inning. Arndt threw eight strikeouts and gave up five walks in five innings of work. Alicia Amundson pitched the final two innings, giving up zero runs on one hit for the win. Granite Falls plays Sehome Wednesday at Janicki Fields in the first game of the 2A District 1 tournament.
