SHORELINE — Shorecrest isn’t used to playing from behind but two of the Scots youngest players capped off a terrific comeback in a 4-3 win over Yelm in a first-round 3A boys soccer state playoff game Tuesday at Shoreline Stadium.

“That was one of the most fun high school games I’ve ever been a part of,” said Shorecrest coach Drew Thompson.

Sophomore Brennan Millea capped a comeback from a 3-1 deficit with a goal with two seconds remaining in the game.

“The ball bounced to him in front of the goal about 25 yards out and he volleyed a shot into the upper right corner,” Thompson said. “It was an amazing shot from young player. I had just put him in the game with 10 minutes to go. He doesn’t play much.”

The defending state champions had not trailed in a game all season before falling behind Everett 1-0 in a district contest. Yelm took a 3-1 lead into halftime.

“We’d never trailed by two or allowed three goals in a game before,” Thompson said.

Glenn Paden scored his second goal of the game in the 59th minute off a Michael Harris assist to get the Scots within one. Freshman Morgan West score in the 68th minute off a Hiei Rose assist to tie the score. It was his second goal of the season.

Paden also scored in the first half off a Jayme Parry assist.
