EDMONDS — With the resignation of Councilman Dave Orvis comes another open seat for the Edmonds City Council to fill.
The council is accepting applications from Edmonds residents to be considered for appointment to fill the vacancy. The seat’s term expires Dec. 31, 2011.
Applications are available in the Office of the City Clerk, 121 Fifth Ave. N, Edmonds. Deadline for submitting applications is 4:30 p.m. June 21.
Council will conduct interviews of candidates June 29. Nominations from the pool of applicants will be considered July 6.
This is the same procedure followed earlier this year when the council seated Diane Buckshnis to Position 4, a seat vacant upon the death of Peggy Pritchard Olson in 2009.
The council meets each Tuesday evening. The seven elected members are at-large positions, representing all citizens.
The monthly salary for council members is $600 per month and $50 per meeting to a maximum of eight meetings per month or $1,000 in total.
Orvis announced his resignation from Position 7 on May 6, effective May 31, citing family issues. He served 10 years on the council.
