Super Kid: Gorge Posadas, 17, Everett High School senior

Leading man: Gorge Posadas is Associated Student Body president at Everett High School and part of Latin Image, a diversity club that focuses on Latin American cultures.
Looking back: History is Gorge’s favorite subject.
If he could go back in time, he’d stay a while in the ’60s or ’70s. “Just so I could see what kind of lifestyle they have compared to what we have. I want to meet a hippie. That would be crazy.”
Returning favors: When Gorge (pronounced George) was young, appendicitis put him in the hospital. A volunteer visited him several times and made an impression on Gorge. In an attempt to repay the favor, he now volunteers at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett.
He also helps students with homework at Hawthorne Elementary School in Everett. Since he is one of the school’s few bilingual tutors, he usually works with Spanish-speaking students.
Play on: He competes for the Seagulls football, wrestling and track teams. He boxes outside of school. He is a captain for football and track. He plays fullback and middle linebacker in football. In track, he throws the shot put and discus and sprints the 100-meter dash.
Football is his favorite sport. “I just have a passion for it. I love hitting. I got good at it. I made it so it doesn’t hurt me, but it usually hurts the other person.”
Ravens fan: Gorge roots for the Baltimore Ravens, largely because inside linebacker Ray Lewis is his favorite pro player. Gorge is impressed that Lewis has stuck with the NFL for 14 years. “When I see him play, he’s really animated and into what he’s doing. You can tell he’s really passionate about it.”
Oh brother: Gorge has two brothers, a sister, two stepbrothers and a stepsister. He is the youngest. “It’s fun. It’s always nice having someone to look up to. I learn from their mistakes, too.”
Mending bruises: After graduation, Gorge wants to attend Seattle Pacific University, the University of Washington or Washington State University. He plans to study pre-med and physical therapy with a minor in athletic training. He’s been sidelined with injuries in the past and wants to help others work through the pain.
Brotherly love: Gorge looks up to all his siblings, his mom, Oneyda Nelson, and his stepdad, Gary Nelson. “I admire my stepdad because although he wasn’t blood-related to me, he’s treated me like a son, and he raised me. Without him, I probably wouldn’t be where I am today.”
Blowing air: Last spring, Gorge and three classmates built a prototype of a turbine that would use the wind blown by cars to make electricity. The team traveled to Washington State University in Pullman to compete in the Imagine Tomorrow alternative energy competition.
