PREP ROUNDUP: Late Lynnwood HR frustrates Meadowdale
Published 11:19 pm Wednesday, April 7, 2010
LYNNWOOD — For the Meadowdale softball team it has been a season of almost. Unfortunately for the Mavericks almost does not show up in the standings.
After jumping out to 2-0 lead in the first inning and holding a 3-2 lead at the end of five innings, the Mavs couldn’t hold on, falling 4-3 to Lynnwood in a Wesco South game at Meadowdale Wednesday.
“We are right in every game,” Meadowdale coach Dennis Hopkins said. “We just can’t seem to get over the little hump that we are sitting on.”
With one out in the seventh and the score tied at 3-3, Lynnwood’s Kelsey Parker stepped to the plate and smacked the first pitch she saw from Alyssa Ruble for what proved to be the game-winning home run.
“It’s exciting,” Lynnwood coach Matt Rockne said. “It’s a testament to the confidence that the girls play with. We preach the first inning to the last out, just keep going and good things will happen.”
Ruble (0-3) took the loss in relief of Kylie Studioso, who gave up two runs in five innings. Studioso struckout four against three walks.
Lynnwood’s Kelsie Mason (5-2) went the distance, giving up five hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
Mason got off to a rough start in the first when Lindsey Milner roped a two-RBI double, but settled down the rest of the way.
Milner hit 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, but she was left stranded every time she reached base which was the story of the day for the Mavs.
“We are just not getting the key hit that we need at the right time,” Hopkins said.
The loss drops the Mavs into eighth place in league, while the Royals solidified their position in third with their fourth league win of the year.
