EDMONDS — It took a week to do it but Edmonds-Woodway finally dispatched one of its chief rivals for the Wesco South dual meet championship, beating Kamiak 4-3 Friday.
“We started on Tuesday, couldn’t finish on Wednesday. We both had matches on Thursday and it started raining today so we had to take the last doubles indoors at Harbor Square to finish it up,” E-W coach Dan Crist said.
E-W improved to 4-0 in league, 10-1 overall. The loss was Kamiak’s (2-2, 9-2) second of the season.
“Any of those teams with one loss, if we lose we’re back tied with them,” Crist said. “Everybody’s pretty evenly matched.”
E-W trailed 3-1 when play began Friday. Michelle Nelson pulled out a three-set win at No. 3 singles to bring the Warriors within a point. Her match was tied 4-4 in the third set before she won the last two games.
A win a No. 2 doubles evened the meet. Then an indoor victory at No. 3 doubles tipped it in E-W’s favor.
“We led 6-3, 4-1 when we went indoors,” Crist said.
