The Seattle Sounders FC traded midfielder Stephen King to D.C. United on Friday in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2011 Major League Soccer SuperDraft.

King, 24, played in 10 MLS games with Seattle in 2009, including three starts. He also started five U.S. Open Cup matches, scoring three goals and collecting one assist.

King has not appeared in a match this season.

“Stephen is a wonderful guy and we want to thank him for his contributions,” Seattle head coach Sigi Schmid said in statement released by the team. “We wish him all the best.”

King began his MLS career with the Chicago Fire, appearing in 20 games in the 2007-08 season. Seattle selected him in the 2008 expansion draft.
