Brackets whacked

Dawg fight: While UW Husky fans celebrated a mild upset Saturday over New Mexico in the NCAA basketball tournament, most of them also likely tore up their brackets after the top-seeded Kansas Jayhawks lost to the Northern Iowa Panthers, a No. 9 seed.
So along with Husky cheers, you also likely heard cries of anguish from studious basketball fans who now stand to lose office pools to the nonfans at work who selected their teams based on the fierceness of mascots and jersey color preference.
Fruit of the doomed: With the Huskies assured a spot in the Sweet 16, Spokane’s Gonzaga University, a No. 8 seed, today faces Syracuse, a No. 1 seed.
No contest here, folks: It’s a bulldog vs. an orange.
All over but the shouting: After more than a year of proposals, counterproposals, arguments, promises, threats and exasperation on all sides, the U.S. House is expected today to take an up-or-down vote on dramatic reforms to the nation’s health care system.
And not a moment too soon, because the nation’s media outlets were wondering how they were going to continue to cover the health care debate and Tiger Woods’ return to golf at the same time.
