Congrats to the Jackson boys team and the Edmonds-Woodway girls team, which both earned winner-to-state Class 4A District 1 basketball tournament victories last night at Jim Linden Fieldhouse in Marysville.
Now my attention shifts to tonight’s 4A district hoops championship games. Wesco North rivals Stanwood (16-6) and Lake Stevens (17-5) play in the boys game at 6 p.m. Then North foes Marysville-Pilchuck (17-5) and Lake Stevens (17-5) will battle in the girls game at 8 p.m. Both contests are at the Jackson High School gym in Mill Creek.
Just like last night, I will do live blogging at tonight’s games with CoverItLive. Stay tuned throughout the evening for score updates, game trends and reader polls.
By the way: Because the length of my game stories is limited by how much space we have available in our print version of The Herald, sometimes I can’t squeeze in all the interesting statistics and post-game comments. Here are some extra stats from Friday night’s Jackson-Cascade game:
*Jackson had 15 assists and just nine turnovers. Brett Kingma (four assists), Mike Wishko (four assists), Ryan Todd (three assists) and Marshall Massengale (three assists) all had at least three assists.
*Forward Austin O’Keefe was 7 of 10 from the field.
*Wishko also had six rebounds and five points.
*Kingma shot 7 of 14 from the field, including 6 of 11 from 3-point range.
