PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL/BOWLING ROUNDUP: Edmonds-Woodway overcomes Glacier Peak

Published 11:20 pm Tuesday, January 12, 2010

EDMONDS — A competitive start to Tuesday’s game between the Edmonds-Woodway and Glacier Peak girls quickly turned into a blowout, as Edmonds-Woodway cruised to a 77-53 Western Conference South win.

Glacier Peak held a one-point lead in the final seconds of the first quarter, but Edmonds-Woodway created two Grizzlies turnovers in the final seconds of the quarter to take a 16-13 advantage. The Warriors carried that momentum into the second quarter outscoring Glacier Peak 28-12 to take a 44-25 halftime lead.

“Their full court defense started to click,” Glacier Peak coach Brian Hill said. “We ended up turning the ball over several times.”

Outside shooting also helped the Warrior attack. Angela Woods scored 25 points, including four 3s, while Madeline Kasper had 16 points, with three 3s of her own.

“Woods just couldn’t miss,” Hill said.

In the fourth quarter, Edmonds-Woodway opened up a 25-point lead, but Glacier Peak cut that lead to 11 with just four minutes to play. That was as close as the Grizzlies would get as the Warriors responded and built up the lead in the game’s final minutes.
