PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Lake Stevens earns share of Wesco North title

LAKE STEVENS — The Lake Stevens Vikings’ goal Thursday night was simple. Beat Everett and a share of the Wesco North boys basketball title was theirs. And helped by a 25-5 first quarter, they had little trouble with the Seagulls, winning 76-59 at Lake Stevens High School.

The win earned Lake Stevens a share of the title with Stanwood, whose win over Cascade gave the Spartans the North No. 1 seed and the Vikings the No.2 seed heading into next week’s 4A District 1 tournament.

“I am really proud of our guys,” said Lake Stevens head coach Mark Hein. “We wanted a league title all year long and we got off to a great start tonight.”

Senior guard Aaron Maw torched the nets for 27 points, including five 3-pointers, three of which came in that first quarter.

The Vikings, a preseason coaches’ poll pick to win the title, repeated their North Division title from last year with an identical 14-2 mark. Stanwood was second last season.

Senior Viking guard Jarrett Hanson chipped in five steals and eight assists.
