PREP ROUNDUP: Stars shine in Jackson’s 91-76 boys basketball win over Cascade

Published 11:53 am Tuesday, December 8, 2009

EVERETT — The big names from the Jackson and Cascade boys basketball teams lived up to their preseason hype.

Jackson’s Brett Kingma had 25 points, Ryan Todd added 19 and Marshall Massengale had 18, and Jackson forced 13 first-half turnovers for a 91-76 victory in the season opener for both teams at Cascade High School Thursday night.

Cascade’s Chris McGrath led the Bruins with 23 points, with Kenny Jackson and Johnnie Hilliard each chipping in nine points. Cascade had seven steals.

“The main guys showed up tonight as advertised,” Cascade head coach Jamar Williams said.

With Jackson clinging to a 19-16 first-quarter advantage, the Timberwolves’ pressure defense held the Bruins in check, outscoring Cascade 23-8 in the second quarter. Jackson controlled the glass the entire night, totalling 32 total rebounds.

“Some of the turnovers were forced and some unforced,” Williams added. “It’s the first game of the year, things will work themselves out.”

Cascade picked up the defense in the second half, but timely baskets by Jackson sealed the deal.
