Man wrote about plot to kill self, ex-girlfriend

LAKE STEVENS — The man who police believe killed his ex-girlfriend before turning a handgun on himself apparently described his emotions and his plan in a journal that detectives recovered after the deaths.

Ravy Long, 31, of Shoreline, expressed anger and resentment in his writings. The target of his rage was Erika Song, and he apparently was upset over the couple’s soured relationship.

Long and Song, 27, broke up at the end of August, relatives told police, according to a search warrant filed Wednesday in Snohomish County Superior Court. Long reportedly was devastated.

In his journal, Long wrote that he would shoot Song, then take his own life. The last entry in the handwritten book ends with the word “deceased” alongside the couple’s names, according to the warrant.

Long apparently carried out his plan on the afternoon of Sept. 16.

About 1:30 p.m., Song’s sister called 911 to alert police that her sister was in danger, the warrant said. Long was threatening Song with a gun, she said.

A Snohomish County sheriff’s deputy sped to the scene and heard gunshots on arrival, the warrant said. It was too late to help the two people. Efforts to revive them weren’t successful.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner determined Song and Long died from gunshot wounds to the head. His death was ruled a suicide.

Long killed Song before using the same weapon to shoot himself, Snohomish County sheriff’s detective Scott Wells wrote in the search warrant. During the investigation into the killings, Long’s sister told detectives that the couple had broken up after an anniversary trip together to Victoria, B.C., late last month, the warrant said.

Long had learned that Song may have been seeing someone else, the warrant said.
