Free travel classes in Edmonds

“Beginning French for Travelers” will be offered at Rick Steves’ Europe Through the Back Door travel center classroom. Saturday, Sept. 5, in addition to a session on “Packing Light &Right.”
“Women Traveling Solo” will be the theme at the travel center classroom Thursday, Sept. 10. Learn insider tips from Beth Whitman, author and publisher of the Waunderlust and Lipstick guides.
Greece will be the subject Sept. 12 at the Edmonds Theater. Also on that day, “Creative Photo Fun” will be presented to help travelers share their adventures in books, multimedia or online.

3-Day Walk to go through county
The 2009 Seattle Breast Cancer 3-Day course will be routed through south Snohomish County Sept. 11–13.
Community members not walking are encouraged to support the thousands of walkers and volunteer crew members at the opening or closing ceremonies or by being at the local cheering stations listed below.

Golf tournaments fund good causes
Ÿ The Edmonds Community College Foundation’s 19th annual Golf Classic will be Sept. 11 at the Everett Golf and Country Club. Registration is $175 per golfer. Ÿ The Pink Polka Dots Junior Guild will hold the third annual Sydney Coxon Memorial Golf Tournament and silent auction/dinner on Sept. 12 at Legion Memorial Golf Course in Everett. Sponsored by Integrated Technologies Inc., all proceeds will support brain tumor research at Seattle Children’s Hospital and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
PPD was founded by three classmates in memory of their friend who died at age 11 of a brain tumor. Since its founding in 2006, PPD has raised more than $100,000 for brain cancer research.

The art of letters
Write On Calligraphers, a group interested in letters and paper arts, will explore Frank Lloyd Wright’s letters Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the Frances Anderson Center. On Tuesday, Nov. 11 the group will hear Suzanne Moore, an illustrator of the St. John’s Bible, at Art Works in Edmonds. Vacancy on library board
Snohomish County residents with a desire to serve public libraries are encouraged to apply for a vacancy on the Sno-Isle Libraries Board of Trustees. Sno-Isle Libraries is an inter-county library district serving most of Snohomish County and all of Island County. The Board consists of five Snohomish County residents and two Island County residents. The upcoming vacancy is for a Snohomish County position; preference will be given to applicants from south Snohomish County (Brier, Mountlake Terrace, Edmonds, Lynnwood, Mukilteo, Mill Creek and surrounding unincorporated areas). The position would fill the remaining three years of an unexpired seven-year term and begin immediately.

Weekend MBA program offered
Western Washington University’s College of Business and Economics will host an information session on its new Weekend MBA Program at 6 p.m. Sept. 10 at the University Center of North Puget Sound, 2000 Tower St., Gray Wolf Hall Room 160 in Everett.
The WWU program is designed for active managers and professionals who are seeking career advancement, upward mobility and job security. The program will begin Jan. 8 and meet every other weekend on Fridays and Saturdays.
The program features small class sizes. The priority application deadline is Oct. 16 and the final deadline is Nov. 16. Potential applicants are encouraged to begin the testing and application process now.

Seasonal flu shots available
Clinics and stores across the area are offering seasonal flu vaccinations.
Bartell Drugs is among businesses offering special vaccination programs, with many stores also offering shots by appointment or on a walk-in basis.
