Green vs. Grey game: Green 6, Grey 0

TALKING POINTS

One-sided on the scoreboard. Not as one-sided in terms of play — Grey outshot Green 34-29 — but there was never any threat to Green’s lead. Green was sharper in the offensive zone, got better goaltending and was well worth its victory.

There were three penalties taken in the game. All three infractions were committed by the Grey team, and Green scored on all three resulting power plays. So 3-for-3, but I wouldn’t expect that success rate to carry over into the season.

A funny moment happened midway through the first period when Grey’s Byron Froese went crashing into Green goaltender Kent Simpson and ended up in the goal. Froese had to fight his way out back out of the net as Simpson kept him trapped.

An observation on Nicholas Walters: The D-man may have been Everett’s first pick in this year’s draft, but he doesn’t appear to be a prima donna. He must have sprawled out to block shots more often than anyone else these past four days.

Three players were held out of the game. Right wings Shane Harper and Dale Hunt were rested after picking up knocks during camp, and defenseman Rasmus Rissanen is still awaiting clearance for full contact.

TURNING POINT

Not much to turn. Green got going from the start, scored 6:46 into the game on Zack Dailey’s tipped goal, and rolled from there.

HIT OF THE DAY

Grey defenseman Radko Gudas may have had the five best hits of the day. I guess I’ll go with the one from early in the third period when he ran over Paul Sohor.

THREE STARS (picked by me)

First star: Dailey. Opened the scoring and provided energy with his speed.

Second star: Ryan White, Green. Also played with energy, flashed a little skill, and had a nice set up for Green’s second goal.

Third star: Andy Desautels, Green. Yes, the game was already decided by the time he went in goal in the third period, but the 15-year-old looked solid, stopping all 14 shots he faced as Grey tried to avert a shutout.
