LAKE STEVENS – Rescue crews this afternoon recovered the body of the woman missing in the waters of Lake Stevens after a boating accident last night.

Crews first were called late on Saturday to the south end of the lake, where a 20-foot ski boat was reported sinking, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Lt. Rodney Rochon said.

Nine of the 10 boaters made it safely to shore, Rochon said. The driver of the boat, a 48-year-old Lake Stevens woman, was missing.

Search and rescue crews returned to the lake about 6:30 this morning to resume the search, Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Dittoe said.

About a dozen people watched rescue workers from behind the fence outside Wyatt Park.

Sheriff’s divers around 3 p.m. found the boat in 50 feet of water and recovered the woman’s body, Dittoe said. The Snohomish County medical examiner was expected to do an autopsy.

Officials have not released the woman’s name. People at the scene said she was a longtime resident of Lake Stevens.
