PREP SOCCER: Meadowdale edges Shorewood

SHORELINE — Senior forward Julia Fjortoft scored a goal and assisted on another minutes later as Meadowdale took a 2-0 non-league win over Shorewood Tuesday night at Shoreline Stadium.
Fjortoft settled a cross from the wing and unleashed a strong volley from about 12-yards out to give Meadowdale (1-1 overall) an early 1-0 lead in the 24th minute. Brittany Evarts had the assist.
“We (Shorewood’s defense) weren’t able to clear (the ball) and (Fjortoft) had a fantastic volley about waist height,” Shorewood head coach Nathan Davis said. “She (Fjortoft) definitely found some space and got open for it.”
Senior Kaeli Eberth doubled the Mavericks lead two minutes later with a goal in the 26th minute. Fjortoft assisted on Eberth’s tally.
Shorewood couldn’t break Meadowdale’s strong defensive back line and was held to about six shots on goal, Davis said.
“I think Shorewood came out and we got a couple of good opportunities early, but they played a little better possession than we did and they have a strong back four,” Davis said. “We found it really hard to get in between them.”
Davis said both goalkeepers came up with a couple key saves apiece in the contest. Shorewood’s (1-2) goalkeeper was junior Madison Hollenbeck and Meadowdale’s was sophomore Julia Grossenbacher.
Kamiak 3, Mountlake Terrace 0: At Edmonds, sophomore Lauren Luke (Cassidy Seckman assist) scored in the first minute to lead Kamiak to a non-league win. Paige Littrell added a penalty kick goal in the 32nd minute and Cara Munoz (Hillary Hermes assist) scored in the 50th minute. Kamiak’s (2-1 overall) Emma Makela and Tana Foster shared time at goalkeeper. Takara Mitsui was the goalkeeper for Mountlake Terrace (0-3).
Shorecrest 8, Lynnwood 0: At Lynnwood, Jessica Rankin scored on an assist from Agen Heffernan, Rankin scored on Sophia Flohr’s assist, Flohr scored on an assist by Rankin, Flohr scored on Christina Jarvis’s assist, Jarvis scored on an assist by Ashley Desharnais, Jarvis scored on Desharnais’s assist, Rankin scored on an assist by Alexis Ramos, Ramos scored on Bri Lasconia’s assist and Shorecrest improved to 2-0-1 overall. Kayla Orbrycki and Chelsey Doyle combined for the shutout against Lynnwood (0-2 overall).
Edmonds-Woodway 6, Mariner 0: At Everett, Mireya Saucedo initiated a burst of three goals in six minutes to put Edmonds-Woodway up early in the non-conference game. Lauren Previs added two goals and an assist and Katherine Amsden, Kalia Machado and Lindsey Aranda also scored for the Warriors (2-0-1 overall). Kristin Lyschall and Justine Ponton combined for the shutout for E-W while Mia Ayala stood in goal for Mariner (0-3).
Marysville-Pilchuck 1, Stanwood 0 (OT): At Marysville, Becca Lentz headed in the game-winner off Mady Schoonover’s throw-in assist, giving M-P the Wesco North win and keeping the Tomahawks undefeated at 3-0 in league, 3-0 overall. Lauren Schoonover got the shutout for the Tomahawks. Haley Haugstad was Stanwood’s (0-2, 0-2) goalie.
Monroe 2, Snohomish 0: At Monroe, after an own goal by Snohomish in the 35th minute put Monroe ahead, Alyssa Drew padded the lead with a score in the 65th minute, heading in a free kick by Whitney Siler, to lead the Bearcats to the Wesco North win. Dani Philippart recorded the shutout for Monroe (2-0-1 in league and overall) and sophomore Ashley Holten handled goalkeeper duties for the Panthers (1-1).
Lake Stevens 2, Cascade 0: At Lake Stevens, Annie Thomas scored in the 51st minute off a Kinslee Isaman assist and then in the 61st minute returned the favor assisting on an Isaman goal for Lake Stevens on its way to the Wesco North win. Sierra Hobday got the shutout for the Vikings (2-1 in league and overall). Cascade’s (0-2-1) goalkeeper was not reported.
Arlington 3, Oak Harbor 0: At Oak Harbor, Arlington jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the half, and went on to win the Wesco North match. Goalscorers and goalkeepers were not reported. Arlington’s record is 1-2-0 overall and league. Oak Harbor is 0-3, 0-3.
Archbishop Murphy 6, Granite Falls 0: At Everett, Lindsey Bos had two goals and two assists to lead the Wildcats (1-0 league, 2-0 overall) to the Cascade Conference win. Katie Corbett (Bos assist) got Murphy started with a goal in the eighth minute. Caroline Brawner (Ally Beck assist) followed with a goal in the 25th minute. Two minutes later, Tasha Pabisz (Bos assist) put the Wildcats up 3-0. Bos scored an unassisted goal in the 30th minute and added another goal in the 50th minute (Sam Pettinger assist). Brawner closed out the scoring (Elyse Ulowetz assist) in the 64th minute. Alexa Hughes was in goal for Murphy. Kelsey Carlson tended the net for Granite Falls (0-1, 2-1).
Cedarcrest 9, Sultan 0: At Duvall, Ashton Griffen scored two goals and assisted on three more for Cedarcrest in a Cascade Conference match. Clare O’Donell (Griffen assist), Maggie Pleis (Jessica Pitts assist) and Griffen scored in the first half for Cedarcrest (1-0 league, 2-0-1 overall). Kori Butterfield (O’Donell assist), Griffen (McKenna Swanson assist), Alix Combs (O’Donnell assist), O’Donnell (Griffen assist), Swanson (Gwen Bieck assist) and Bieck (Griffen assist) scored in the second half. Cedarcrest’s Kori Butterfield and Jordan Cleman shared time in goal. Sultan’s (0-1, 0-1) goalkeeper was not reported.
Lakewood 3, South Whidbey 1: At Langley, Lakewood scored its three goals in the first 13 minutes of play and outshot South Whidbey 14-0 in the first half to keep the Cougars undefeated at 3-0 overall (1-0 in Cascade Conference). Danielle Knapp and Abby Burke scored on assists by Alisha Stott, who scored the third goal on an assist from Taylor Studzinski. South Whidbey’s (0-1, 1-2) Makenzie Peterson scored unassisted two minutes into the second half, but Lakewood goalie Miranda Head did not allow another goal.
King’s 6, Coupeville 0: At Coupeville, Paige Johnson scored two goals to help lead King’s to a Cascade Conference win. Hillary Zevenbergen assisted on Johnson’s first goal in the 39th minute and Izzy Quinn assisted on Johnson’s second goal in the 54th minute. Christina McCormick (Kelsey Christianson assist), Taylor Hauck (Anna Diede assist), Emily Fretland (Izzy Quinn assist) and Maddy McDevitt (Hillary Quinn assist) also scored for King’s (1-0 league, 2-0 overall). Maddy McDevitt and Christina McCormick shared time in goal for King’s. Ashley Manker was the goalkeeper for Coupeville (0-1, 1-1).

Puget Sound Adventist 5, Grace Academy 1: At Marysville, Young Suk Kim scored two unassisted goals to help vault Puget Sound Adventist to a non-conference win. PSA’s David Park scored in the 17th minute and PSA added another goal (Steven Lee assist) in the 27th minute for a 4-0 lead before Jordan Rock scored for Grace Academy. Sanghoon Lee (Henry Kim assist) closed the scoring in the 37th minute. Garrett Weinberg was the goalkeeper for Grace Academy (0-3-0 overall). Jasper Anderson earned the win in goal for PSA.
Providence Classical 3, Shoreline Christian 0: At Lynnwood, Caleb Moisant scored twice to lead Providence to the non-league win. Beau Butraud assisted on Moisant’s first goal in the 49th minute. Ryan Morris assisted on Moisant’s goal in the 81st minute. Andrew Moisant scored in the 39th minute, assisted by Eric Moisant. Luke Morris was in goal for Providence. Shoreline Christian is 0-1 overall. Providence is 1-0.
