MARYSVILLE — Marysville-Pilchuck High School was placed on lockdown Monday afternoon when administrators heard rumors that a former student planned to bring a gun to campus.

Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies searched the school but didn’t find the student — a 16-year-old boy who had been expelled from Marysville-Pilchuck, said Rebecca Hover, spokeswoman for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

Earlier in the day, the boy apparently had argued with his mom and left their house with a rifle. Though he did not threaten anyone at his former school, Marysville-Pilchuck was placed on lockdown as a precaution.

Sheriff’s deputies learned that the boy went to a friend’s house. They met him nearby but didn’t arrest him, Hover said.

The school was placed on lockdown at 12:25 p.m. and opened 25 minutes later.
