EVERETT — Edmonds-Woodway’s Alec Fellows is a force to be reckoned with in Wesco track and field. He has consistently placed among the top spots in his four main events this season and, on Thursday night at Goddard Stadium, Fellows won each event that he entered. He set a school record in the triple jump with a distance of 14 feet, 6 inches and a personal season-record of 6-3 in the high jump. He also won the 110-meter hurdles (15.43 seconds) and long jump (21-5).
The Warrior’s boys track team (65.5 points) edged out Shorecrest (64) and Kamiak (51.5) for the team victory in the Wesco South meet.
“It was a good competition and very good weather finally,” said Kamiak boys coach Paul Kirkpatrick. “It’s been tough this spring (with sickness) but the kids are finally getting their legs under them and are ready to compete.”
Strong performances by another pair of Edmonds-Woodway athletes helped boost them to the 1.5 point victory over Shorecrest. Discus thrower William Broadlick continued a string of strong showings with a distance of 146-4 while sprinter Noah Martin won the 100 meter dash (11.10) and improved upon his time in the 200 with a win in 23.30.
Shorecrest’s Joseph McConaughy finished with a first-place victory in the 1,600 and Chris Freeborn finished first in the 3,200.
A strong Shorecrest squad led the girl’s competition with wins by Alexis Ramos in the 100 (12.90) and 200 (26.40). She was also on the winning 400 and 800 relay teams.
“Shorecrest is an extremely talented and extremely deep team,” said Edmonds-Woodway coach Rick Fillman.
Shorecrest won the girl’s meet with 112 points, Edmonds-Woodway finished with 50 and Kamiak scored 27.
Edmonds-Woodway’s Betsie Hopper and Adama Marenah each set a personal record in the 3,200 (11:48.30) and 300 hurdles (49.90), respectively.
Kamiak’s 1,600 relay team of Shelly Davis, Sydni Rhoads, Megan Blocker and Stephanie Moore finished second behind Shorecrest.
“It was a great meet and nice to get good competition for the kids as they prepare to qualify for state,” said Fillman. “The kids are coming together and we’re starting to peak at the right time.”
