PREP ROUNDUP

MUKILTEO — With their softball season on the line, Marysville-Pilchuck’s Riley Fritz and Jen Rosie pitched the Tomahawks into the 4A District 1 playoffs.
Fritz and Rosie tossed a combined no-hitter for M-P in a 6-0 district play-in game win over host Kamiak Monday afternoon.
The pitchers teamed up to strike out eight Kamiak batters (four each) and the Knights managed just one baserunner — a batter reached on an M-P error in the first inning.
“We put the ball in play, but they played really solid defense,” Kamiak head coach Bill Bowker said.
The Tomahawks (11-10 overall), the No. 5-seed from the Wesco North division, strung together some hits in the third inning to take an early lead. A fielder’s choice and error allowed M-P to take a 2-0 lead.
Sacha Clow tripled in the fifth inning and Fritz and Megan Bombach added doubles in a three-run inning.
“They put together a number of base hits combined with some extra-base hits,” Bowker said. “They got some timely hitting in the fifth.”
Bombach batted 2-for-4 and Rosie batted 2-for-2 with a walk for M-P.
Fritz and Rosie didn’t walk any batters and the first-inning error was the team’s only blemish.
“The pitchers did a great job of moving the ball around,” Bowker said. “They did a great job defensively and shut us down.”
M-P faces North No. 1-seed Stanwood (17-2) today at 3 p.m. in the first round of the 4A District 1 playoffs at Sky River Park in Monroe.
Kamiak’s (7-14) junior pitcher Kim Kocik struck out four batters and walked one.
