What’s ‘overqualified’?

Bring on the neophytes: Personal finance columnist Michelle Singletary has advice for job seekers who are told they’re “overqualified” — code for “middle-age and/or well-trained person who will expect a decent salary” — for a position.

We’ve been hearing a lot lately about “overqualified” people, like Capt. Richard Phillips, 53, a 30-year merchant seaman. Hey, we’ve got a GPS — we don’t need experienced mariners.

And don’t forget airline pilot Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, 58. His 40 years on the job will make him unemployable after he gets a buyout.

So, to the hiring managers of America, The Buzz says: Keep on culling those overqualified people. The nation’s unqualified people deserve a chance to con their way into jobs that they will then attempt to do with smoke and mirrors.

Due diligence: A state database will help you determine whether a sex offender lives next door to the house you want to buy.

Now all we need is a database of yappy dogs.
