STANWOOD — Sam Bingham gave Stanwood a little breathing room at the top the of Western Conference North Division softball table.

The junior catcher hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning and pitcher Brittany Jeans struck out 13 Snohomish hitters to lead the Spartans to a 4-1 Wesco North win Monday at Stanwood.

According to Stanwood head coach Cherlyn Schander, Jeans has a full arsenal of pitches to work with and her rising fastball was really working against the Panthers.

Snohomish never threathened with runners in scoring position aside from its single run scored in the seventh inning.

The win gives Stanwood a two-game lead in the division; Snohomish remains in second place with a 6-2 league record.

Along with a strong performance from Bingham, Jordan Nemo batted 2-for-4 for the Spartans.

For Snohomish, pitcher Janelle Kasch struck out six and walked two batters in a complete game loss.

“It was a big game,” Schander said. “…They (Stanwood) wanted it today.”
