The Rotary Club of Edmonds has offered four-year high school scholarships to five freshman students in Rabour, Kenya.
All of the five — Brenda Okumu, Carolyne Wasuna, Linda Asenath, Victor Okwacho and Daniel Omondi — are orphans who underwent a rigorous selection process.
At the recent Rotary Club of Edmonds meeting David Anstine, Chair of Rabuor Village Partners, accepted a scholarship check for $3,300 from the Tuesday noon Rotary Club.
Each of the students will each receive a scholarship of $660 for room and board, tuition, uniforms, text books plus some travel money.
Plans are to receive yearly updates and letters from the students to assure that they are proceeding towards a successful completing of their education. The club is looking forward to following these students over the next four years, according to a statement.
On Saturday, March 21, from 1-3 p.m., the Louis Braille school will hold in annual benefit auction at the South County Senior Center, 220 Railroad Avenue, along the waterfront in downtown Edmonds.
Items range from a ride on a city fire truck, to several yards of premium compost, to home delivery of milk, eggs, and cheese.
Entertainment includes: a barbershop quartet, puppies in training for Guide Dogs for the Blind, and participating in “turning the crank” to make homemade ice cream.
