SNOHOMISH — In a tough, well-played match, the Jackson boys soccer team turned to its leaders to show the way to victory.

Senior co-captains Alex Tayler and Tommy Ellis both scored goals to help the Timberwolves to a 2-0 non-league win over Glacier Peak on a rainy Tuesday night at Snohomish Veterans Memorial Stadium.

“I would say possession (of the ball) was 50 percent even,” Jackson head coach Brett Norton said. “It was very physical, very wet. … A lot of heart and sweat was left on that field, by both teams.”

Both of the Timberwolves’ goals came on set pieces. Tayler scored on a free kick in the 28th minute and Ellis headed the ball in off a corner kick from Jackson junior Tye Hastings in the 70th.

Senior Eric Hodel recorded his first shutout of the season in goal for the Timberwolves, who improved to 3-0-0 overall. Glacier Peak is now 1-2-0.

Jackson’s Tayler was one of several players on both sides to be sidelined by injury during the game. Tayler left the game with a foot injury in the second half.

Norton said he would know more about Tayler’s injury today, but he expects his other hurt players to be available for the Timberwolves’ next game.

“The condition of the field was beautiful, it was just a real physical game,” Norton said. “The Glacier Peak coach always puts a tough team on the field and they didn’t disappoint. (The game) was very clean, no cards. … Very sportsmanlike.”
