Silvertips fall to Spokane 4-3 in overtime

KENNEWICK — Hudson Elynuik scored the game-winning goal 30 seconds into overtime as the Spokane Chiefs came from behind to defeat the Everett Silvertips 4-3 at the Tri-City Tournament at the Toyota Center Wednesday.
The Tips (1-2-1) led 3-2 following a second-period goal by Patrick Bajkov until Pavel Kousal’s unassisted goal with less than two minutes remaining in regulation tied the game at 3-3.
Bajkov’s go-ahead goal came at 14:03 in the second. It was Bajkov’s first goal of the preseason and came off an assist from Brandon Hein.
Elynuik finished with two goals including the game’s first tally at 8:36 in the first on an assist from Kailer Yamamoto.
Jeff Faith pushed the Spokane advantage to 2-0 on a power play goal at 9:57.
Everett’s Lucas Skrumeda scored with three seconds remaining in the first period and teammate Connor Dewar knotted the game at 2-2 less than a minute into the second period.
Elynuik had an assist to go along with his two goals for a three-point afternoon. Keanu Yamamoto had two assists.
Everett goaltender Carter Hart recorded 28 saves as the Tips surrendered 32 shots.
Spokane netminder Jayden Sittler saved 27 of the 30 shots put up by the Silvertips.
Everett continues preseason play Thursday as it takes on Portland at the Toyota Center. The Winterhawks defeated Everett 4-1 last Sunday in the final game of the 13th Annual Holiday Inn Preseason Classic at Xfinity Arena.
