Fill out forms, get money for college
Learn how to get free money for college. Everett Community College offers College Goal Sunday on Saturday, Jan. 24, a national program to help families fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
Pre-registration is not required, but an online sign-up guarantees a time slot. The event is from noon to 4 p.m. in Shuksan Hall, 2000 Tower St., Everett.
Students are encouraged to fill out the student aid application even if their college plans are uncertain.
Because household financial information is key to the application, students and parents are encouraged to attend the event together with financial records (recent tax forms and pay stubs) and the student’s Social Security number and driver’s license (if any). Those families who don’t have all of their paperwork in order are still encouraged to attend to start the process.
Snohomish Railfans group will meet tonight in Everett
Snohomish Railfans changed meeting dates for 2009. They will get together to discuss railroad lore at 7 tonight at the Hilton Lake Fire Station, 3525 108th St. SE, Everett.
The group met on the third Wednesday of the month in 2008, but will meet on the second Wednesday of the month in 2009.
Insurance advice for storm victims
Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler asks state residents to check their property after the latest winter storm and floods.
“When it’s safe to do so, survey your property and determine the extent of damage you’ve suffered, if any,” he said. “Before you file a claim, check your policy to see what’s covered and the amount of your deductible. You may want to make the repairs yourself. But if you have substantial damage, contact your agent or company as soon as possible.”
Damage caused by high winds is covered under a typical homeowner’s policy, but you must have a separate flood insurance policy in order to be covered.
Most vehicle damage would fall under comprehensive coverage. Vehicles with liability coverage only are not covered.
